Reg Carter was part of the Southwold Carter family, but he was most famous for his cartoon characters - amongst which featured the Southwold postcard series. Some of which are shown here.

Reginald Arthur Lay Carter was a British comics artist from the first half of the 20th century, who contributed mainly to D.C. Thomson and Amalgamated Press. Born in Southwold, Blything, East Suffolk, Carter's first art jobs included contributions to humor magazines and postcard illustrations. By 1907 he was contributing to Ally Sloper's Half Holiday. His Amalgamated Press work began with 'The Artful Antics of Babe Hardy' in The Kinema Comic in 1920.

Throughout the 1920s, his work appeared in various Fleetway titles, including Monster Comic ('Wireless Willie and Bertie Broadcast', 'Jip, Jumbo and Jock') and Golden Penny ('Nathaniel Nodd'). In the mid-1930s he was present in Mickey Mouse Weekly with 'Troubles of Father' and 'Sea Shanties'. He was present on the frontpages of the early issues of D.C. Thomson's The Beano with the ostrich 'Big Eggo' (1938-49). Other Beano strips by Carter were 'Freddie Flipperstreet' and 'Peter Penguin'.
